ABDELARAHMAN SALEH ADAM SENTENCED TO NINE YEARS IN PRISON IN PORTSMOUTH FOR RAPE
An 18-year-old man, Abdelarahman Saleh Adam, has been sentenced to nine years in prison for the sexual assault of a woman in Portsmouth.
Adam was convicted of attacking a 19-year-old woman in the early hours of September 20 last year.
The police stated that Adam was among two men who followed the victim after approaching her in Lake Road.
He subsequently raped her on Turner Road at around 00:30 BST.
The court was told that Adam must serve at least two-thirds of his sentence in custody.
Additionally, he will be registered as a sex offender.
Adam, who resides on Gathorne Road in Wood Green, London, was praised during the trial by Judge Robert Bright QC for the victim’s bravery.
Hampshire Constabulary confirmed that seven other individuals were detained during the investigation, but all were released without charges.
Portsmouth Chief Inspector Robert Mitchell commented, "Stranger assaults of this nature are rare, and I hope the community feels reassured that when we receive these sorts of allegations, we will take them seriously and do everything in our power to bring those responsible to justice."
