ABBAS ABBASS AND HIS HORRIFIC CRIMES IN PETERBOROUGH

A brutal and seemingly heartless offender who stalked and attacked a woman in the heart of Peterborough has been officially convicted and sentenced to a lengthy term behind bars.

Abbas Abbass, aged 40, carried out a series of heinous sexual assaults in the early hours of December 17, leaving a trail of trauma and fear.

The police report details how Abbass repeatedly targeted the victim during a terrifying encounter that unfolded in the city centre of Peterborough.

According to authorities, the incident began around 2:00 AM when Abbass approached the woman on Bridge Street, the bustling area known for its shops and nightlife.

He asked if she wanted help ordering a taxi, but when she refused, he persisted in trying to initiate physical contact by attempting to kiss her despite her clear requests for him to go away.

After his initial attempt was rebuffed, CCTV footage captured Abbass leaving the scene for a short while, only to be observed following the victim at a discreet distance as she moved through the city.

As she approached Town Bridge, she reported suddenly feeling unwell, experiencing dizziness that incapacitated her temporarily.

Despite this, she pressed on along Oundle Road.

It was during this walk that Abbass caught up with her once more.

He took advantage of her vulnerable state and engaged in sexual assault, raping her twice within the proximity of a nearby recreation ground.

Following the attacks, Abbass ordered a taxi and transported her to his residence.

The woman, feeling scared and disoriented, awoke the following morning only to find herself in a distressing situation.

Abbass sexually assaulted her again during her apparent sleep, leaving her feeling frightened and helpless.

Realising she could no longer tolerate the situation, she opened her eyes and pushed him away, clearly indicating her resistance.

Abbass, showing no remorse, pretended as if nothing had happened and acted as if the incident was over.

Nonetheless, the woman managed to leave his home and contacted a friend for support.

Her friend subsequently drove her to the police station to report the assault.

Detective Constable Jake Owen expressed his relief that justice has been served.

He described Abbass as a dangerous sexual predator responsible for multiple assaults that inflicted lasting trauma on the victim.

Owen also praised the victim's bravery in coming forward and supporting the prosecution efforts, acknowledging how difficult that step is for survivors of such crimes.

The court found Abbas Abbass guilty on two counts of rape and one count of assault by penetration.

He was sentenced to 18 years in prison, with an additional six years of supervised release on licence after his imprisonment.

In addition, Abbass has been placed on the Sex Offenders' Register indefinitely to monitor his future conduct and ensure community safety.
