NORWICH MAN JAILED FOR LIFE AFTER ADMITTING COPENHAGEN WAY MURDER
A man from Norwich was sentenced today to a minimum of 14 years in prison after pleading guilty to the murder of a young woman in his home.Aaron O'Brien, aged 22, was involved in a romantic relationship with Magdalena Januszewska, aged 34, which turned violent following his overnight stay with another woman.
Police first responded to concerns raised by O'Brien's father when he did not show up for work and could not be found, leading them to the property on Copenhagen Way, Norwich.
The victim's body was found by officers in O'Brien's bedroom around 2pm on Tuesday, January 25, 2011, prompting a manhunt for O'Brien.
Investigations revealed he had gone out drinking, using drugs, and meeting another woman on Saturday, January 22.
He returned to the house early Sunday morning at approximately 9:30 am, and left later that day in Magdalena's car.
O'Brien was eventually located in the Malton area of North Yorkshire and arrested at 11:45 am on Wednesday, January 26.
During questioning, he claimed that Magdalena had become angry and started shouting at him upon his return on Sunday.
He said he had restrained her and, in the process, strangled her, then assaulted her head before wrapping her face in cling film and plastic bags.
O'Brien then drove away in her vehicle toward Yorkshire.
At Norwich Crown Court, he admitted to murder and was sentenced to at least 14 years' imprisonment.
Detective Chief Inspector Jes Fry of the Joint Norfolk and Suffolk Major Investigation Team commented that O'Brien’s lifestyle appeared self-indulgent and that Magdalena was used without regard for her feelings.
Fry added that there was no justification for the excessive violence inflicted and expressed sympathy for her grieving family, emphasizing the tragedy of her loss.
