A man known for his violent bullying has been sentenced to prison after a lengthy period of abuse spanning 17 months, which included a public robbery outside a pub that was carried out with apparent audacity.
Aaron Norman, aged 37 and from the Abergavenny area, received a 21-month term from Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court.
His sentence covered charges of robbery, controlling and coercive behaviour, and obstructing justice.
The culmination of Norman’s abusive conduct was a drunken attack during which he stole his partner’s phone, bank card, and keys, resulting in her sustaining painful injuries.
The court was told that Norman persistently subjected her to emotional abuse, even insulting her publicly in front of their teenage daughter.
After being released on bail, he attempted to coerce her into withdrawing her accusations, breaching bail conditions in the process.
The judge emphasised that Norman’s repeated and severe behaviour necessitated a custodial sentence, despite his plea for compassion.
He was told he would serve half of his sentence in prison and will face a five-year restraining order to prevent further contact with his victim.
