AARON MCCALL BRANDED DANGEROUS AFTER VIOLENT ATTACK NEAR STOCKTON
In February 2021, a disturbing case emerged involving Aaron McCall, a man from Stockton, who committed a brutal and sexually violent assault that has left a lasting impact on his victim. The incident took place in the early hours of August 11 last year, near Stockton town centre, where McCall lured a woman into a dark, secluded underpass with the promise of a crack cocaine pipe, a tactic often used to manipulate vulnerable individuals into dangerous situations.
According to court proceedings, the victim was approached by McCall around 1am.
He convinced her to accompany him, promising drugs, which led her into the shadowy underpass.
Once inside, McCall's intentions turned sinister as he attacked her with a heavy dog lead, a weapon that he used to inflict physical harm.
The assault quickly escalated into a violent sexual attack, during which he subjected her to abuse while hurling vile insults.
The court heard that during the assault, the woman fell to the ground, and McCall struck her repeatedly with the dog lead, even stamping on her back, causing her to temporarily lose consciousness.
When she regained awareness, she was still being assaulted sexually, and her screams for help attracted the attention of passersby and her boyfriend, who intervened.
The attack was interrupted, and McCall fled the scene, leaving behind a trail of trauma and physical injuries.
The incident was captured on CCTV footage near the area, which led to his identification.
A local takeaway owner recognized McCall from the footage, which proved crucial in his subsequent arrest.
Further investigation revealed that McCall had a prior conviction for a nearly identical assault on another woman.
In that earlier case, he had lured a woman with promises of sharing cannabis before attacking her in a similar manner.
This history underscored the pattern of violence and predatory behavior that McCall exhibited.
During court proceedings, McCall, aged 29 and residing on Smith Street in Stockton, pleaded guilty to charges of assault by penetration and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
His defense argued that he had struggled with substance abuse issues throughout his life and expressed remorse for his actions.
However, the judge, Howard Crowson, was unequivocal in his assessment of McCall's danger to women.
He described him as a significant threat and imposed an extended prison sentence of six years and ten months, followed by an additional five years on licence.
The judge emphasized the severity of the attack, noting that the victim had gone into the underpass expecting to share drugs, only to be met with violence and degradation at the hands of McCall, who used derogatory language and physically assaulted her in a calculated and vicious manner.
